Celebrating 70 years of groundbreaking backhoe innovation, JCB introduces the Platinum Editions of its 3CX and 4CX models.

Founder Joseph Cyril Bamford CBE invented the backhoe concept and the first JCB model was manufactured in 1953 after he combined a lightweight backhoe with a Major Loadall tractor loader. While it took two decades to reach the milestone of 50,000 backhoes, JCB, under the leadership of Chairman Anthony Bamford, has now surpassed a staggering 900,000 units.

For almost 25 years, JCB has maintained its status as the world market leader for backhoes, producing these machines in the UK, India, and Brazil. The Platinum Edition models, comprising 70 limited-edition 3CX PRO and 4CX PRO machines, exemplify the culmination of seven decades of innovation.

Features of the Limited-Edition Models

The Platinum Edition 3CX and 4CX models boast enhanced features, including servo excavator controls, Powerslide, air conditioning, and bi-directional auxiliary flow hydraulics. Distinguished by exclusive platinum decals, grill badges, and wheels, each machine's cab is adorned with an embroidered graphic in the carpet and upgraded seat material featuring the 70th-anniversary branding. The steering wheel center cap proudly displays the 70th logo, and a special plaque accompanies each machine.

Lord Bamford, expressing his enthusiasm for the backhoe loader's enduring relevance, stated, "The backhoe loader is an incredibly versatile machine. Thanks to continued innovation and evolution, it remains just as relevant today as the day it was first invented. The JCB backhoe loader remains one of the most popular pieces of construction equipment in the world, and it has a very exciting future ahead of it."

Seven Decades of Evolution

Over the last 70 years, JCB has continually refined and expanded the backhoe loader concept. Turbocharged engines, powershift transmissions, all-wheel drive, and extending dipper arms are just a few of the innovations that have shaped the machine's evolution. JCB's commitment to innovation is evident in the diverse range of models, from the skid steer-based 1CX to the all-wheel-steer 3CX Compact and the larger 4CX and 5CX equal-sized wheel machines.
