Erik Dean’s new cold storage building in Hector, Minnesota, exemplifies modern design and practicality, thanks in part to a custom bifold lift strap door from Schweiss Doors.

With its clean lines, brown accents, and decorative windows, the structure blends functionality with visual appeal, making it a standout addition to Dean’s farm.

The 80-foot by 108-foot machine shed features a 48-foot by 20-foot bifold door equipped with auto latches and three large windows that allow natural light to flood the interior. The door’s efficient design and superior sealing offer both convenience and energy savings.

Dean, who runs his Renville County farm alongside family members and a neighbor, produces corn, soybeans, sweet corn, and peas. After consulting with neighbors and suppliers, he chose Schweiss Doors for their reputation and advanced features.

“My neighbor, Kurt Sandgren, and I are on the township board together,” Dean said.

“He has Schweiss doors and encouraged me to talk to Mike Schweiss when I was looking for a door. Mike took me all around and talked about the hydraulic doors and pointed out the benefits of the bifold door; being able to park right in front of them and the advantage of being able to open it even if there was a lot of snow,” Dean continued.

“Most of the farmers around here have bifold doors. Country Wide Lumber in Hector did my building and they also told me they liked working with Schweiss Doors.”

Dean values the door’s height and width, which simplifies moving large machinery.

“Everybody told me that when they built their building, they wished they would have put in a bigger and taller door,” Dean said.

“I was even debating about putting in a 22-foot-tall door, but I’m happy with the 20-foot door. The Morton shed, built in the 80s, was where we used to store the combine. It was only 16 feet, and we would have to collapse everything down on the combine to get it in. Now we just drive it in.”

He opted for the strap system over cables and chose the auto latch feature for added convenience.

“My neighbors have all come up and checked out my Schweiss door,” Dean said.

“I’ve got some relatives in the Twin Cities that have come and seen it and they were pretty amazed at it, too.”

Schweiss Doors’ bifold door has proven to be a reliable and stylish solution for Dean’s modern farming operation, blending seamlessly with the sleek design of his new cold storage facility.
