In April 2024, sales of four-wheel drive tractors surged by over 20% in the United States, marking a significant uptick in the field. According to the latest data from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), this increase amounts to a 24% rise compared to the same period in 2023. Furthermore, year-to-date figures show a steady 1.9% increase in four-wheel drive tractor sales across the U.S.

The momentum in sales extends beyond four-wheel-drive tractors. Hundred-plus horsepower tractor units saw a notable 7.2% spike in April sales compared to the previous year, building upon a 3.2% increase in March and a 2.7% rise in February. Additionally, combines experienced a 6.7% growth in April sales compared to 2023.

“The modest growth in agriculture 4-wheel drive tractor sales in April 2024 is an indicator of resilience in the overall ag industry,” said AEM Senior Vice President Curt Blades. “The smaller horsepower market continues to be a challenge, but we remain optimistic for the long-term strength of the ag equipment market.”

In Canada, the sales of combines saw a staggering 73.5% surge in April compared to 2023, with a year-to-date increase of 17.7%. Furthermore, four-wheel drive tractor sales in Canada rose by 7.2% year over year and 9.2% year to date, indicating robust growth in the agricultural machinery sector.
